Support for your course of studies
With the Deutschlandstipendium, the federal government, private sponsors and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences support your course of studies. The scholarship aims to support all students in the standard period of study. Grades are the central criterion for awarding the scholarship, but personal circumstances and commitment are also taken into account. Your own financial background does not play a role! The Deutschlandstipendium generally supports you for two semesters with 300 euros per month. Private sponsors pay 150 euros and the federal government contributes 150 euros. Re-application is possible. If you perform consistently, funding is possible until the end of the standard period of study.
In addition to the financial aspect, the Deutschlandstipendium also offers a non-material component. Lectures and workshops as part of the accompanying program allow you to think out of the box and develop your own skills. There is also the opportunity to come into contact with "your sponsor" and gain valuable insights into professional practice. As a scholarship holder, you benefit from the expertise of the sponsoring companies and foundations and also have the opportunity to get involved. This results in further advantages, e.g. when looking for internships, theses or working student jobs. As a scholarship holder, you also have access to the Deutschlandstipendium e.V. network.
Application possible from 01.05.2025
Applications for the Deutschlandstipendium are handed in online and are open to all students as well as first-year students. Students must be at least one semester into the standard period of study when the scholarship begins. In addition, no other funding may be received that exceeds 30 euros per month (BAföG, student loans and mobility grants for internships and stays abroad, such as Erasmus+ or PROMOS, are excluded from this). Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences announces the Deutschlandstipendium annually. It starts in winter semester. The next application period is expected to run from 01.05. to 30.06.2025. Details can be found in the following announcement. Please note the information on the application process. The decision on who receives a scholarship will be made by an inter-faculty selection committee by mid of October. The basis for the award is the statutes of the HKA.

Deutschlandstipendium - Call for applications for the program year 2025/26
As part of the National Scholarship Program, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HKA) will be offering 103 scholarships for the winter semester 2025/26 (subject to the private financial resources available at the time the scholarships are awarded). The aim is to support talented students who are expected to achieve or have already achieved outstanding academic and professional results. The scholarships of 300 euros per month are funded in equal parts by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and private donors (companies, foundations, private individuals, etc.). The following indivduals are eligible to apply
- all students who are enrolled at the HKA in the winter semester 2025/26 and are within the standard period of study (exceptions can be found in the statutes), as well as
- Applicants who wish to begin their studies at HKA in the winter semester 2025/26 or summer semester 2026.
Unfortunately, applications from students who are already receiving financial support (e.g. as part of the cooperation scholarship, etc.) cannot be considered.
The scholarships are awarded on the basis of the Scholarship Program Act of the Federal Government (StipG) and the statutes for the awarding of Deutschlandstipendien at the HKA. The central award criterion is outstanding performance and talent.
This can be proven as follows:
- for applicants by the average grade of the university entrance qualification higher education entrance qualification with special consideration of the individual grades relevant to the chosen field of study or the special qualification that entitles the applicant to study at this university;
- For students already enrolled, the average of the study and examination results achieved so far (average grade) as well as the ECTS points achieved so far. The ratio of the achieved ECTS points to the ECTS points to be achieved according to the applicable study and examination regulations for the respective semester is multiplied by the calculated average grade.
- for students of a Master's degree program starting in the first semester, also by the final grade of the previous degree program.
In the overall assessment of the applicant's potential, the following are taken into account as auxiliary criteria
- an unpaid social and/or university-related involvement that is ongoing at the time of application, such as volunteer work, community, social, university-related, or political engagement, or participation in religious societies, associations, or clubs.
- Study-related internships of at least 12 weeks in duration, previous professional activities, and achievements achieved in the current academic year, awards, and/or prizes received.
- Personal and family circumstances, such as illness and disabilities, caring for one's own children (especially as a single parent) or a close relative in need of care, working in a family business, gainful employment while studying, family background, or a migration background.
Applicants receive 1 point for each auxiliary criterion they meet. Illnesses and disabilities, caring for one's own children (especially as a single parent), or caring for a close relative in need of care are credited with 2 points. A maximum of 5 points can be awarded. Each point received corresponds to 0.1 grade point. The auxiliary criteria can thus increase the applicant's average grade by a maximum of 0.5 grade points.
Applications can be submitted from 01.05.2025. The application round closes on 30.06.2025.
You can find the online application portal here.
Scholarships are generally awarded for 12 calendar months, starting in the winter semester. A new application is possible as long as the application requirements are met. If the duration of study is extended for serious reasons, such as a disability, pregnancy, the care and upbringing of a child or a subject-related stay abroad, the maximum funding period can be extended upon application.
Payment of the scholarship requires that the scholarship holder is enrolled at the HKA. If the student changes university during the approval period, the scholarship will continue to be paid for one semester in accordance with the previous approval, provided that no change of subject is made.
The scholarship will also be paid during a semester abroad (study semester, internship semester or thesis).
The scholarship does not count towards BAföG benefits.
Funding from the Deutschlandstipendium is excluded if the student receives material support based on talent and performance in accordance with §§ 1 para. 3 or 4 para. 1 sentence 1 of the StipG of July 21, 2010, as amended. Exceptions to this are possible under certain conditions.
Applications not submitted in due time and form will not be considered in the selection process.

There is no legal entitlement to the scholarship.
