Due to the current situation, funding for internships in Russia is currently not possible and will not be possible for the foreseeable future.
Which traineeships can be funded?
- Your internship location must be in one of the countries participating in the program (see target countries).
- Internships can be completed, for example, in companies, research institutions and universities, NGOs, foundations, associations, chambers, schools, institutes, educational centers, public institutions and hospitals. Excluded from funding are European institutions (such as internships in a political group or with a member of the EU Parliament) as well as institutions that administer EU programs or that are funded by EU funds.
- Compulsory internships, research internships, PJ-Tertials, teaching internships, voluntary internships, graduate internships as well as the practical part of theses are funded. The mere writing of theses is not eligible!
- The internship must be a full-time internship, i.e. the weekly working hours should be 30-40 hours/week.
When can I apply for an Erasmus+ Traineeship grant?
From now on, funding is only available under Project 2026:
- Internships in Programme Countries starting from now until 31.12.2026 (subject to the two-week application deadline): registration is currently open.
- Internships in Partner Countries starting between 01.09.2026 and 31.12.2026: registration is currently open.
- For internships in Programme and Partner Countries starting between 01.01.2027 and 31.08.2027, registration will open on 02.11.2026, at 00:01 am.
Your fully completed and signed Erasmus application documents must be received by KOOR – Erasmus Services BW no later than two weeks before the start of your internship. Therefore, the application deadline does not refer to the date of registration, but to the upload date of the final application document.
Applicants planning an internship at schools and universities, including university hospitals and university research institutions, are given a one-week application deadline all year round (same weekday of the previous week) in order to avoid any closing times during the (semester) holidays. Please note that this exception does not include internships at language schools. The two-week deadline applies to these internships.

Repeated funding / Double funding / Partial funding / Vacation days and Public holidays
Repetitive funding
In total, students can receive funding for up to 36 months of study and/or internship:
- in each of the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs, up to twelve months (=360 days),
- in one-term programs (e.g., medicine, state examination, old diploma programs) up to 24 months (=720 days) and an additional twelve months (=360 days) in doctoral studies,
- the funding can be divided and within a study cycle also be used several times (eg for two times six months).
- internships in Erasmus+ partner countries (WORLDWIDE) can only be funded once per student and per project year.
Double funding
Please note the following regulations regarding the combination of Erasmus+ internship funding with other scholarships:
- Internships at EU institutions and other EU bodies, including specialised agencies, are excluded. A complete list can be found here.
- Receiving an Erasmus+ internship grant and another EU scholarship at the same time is not permitted. Please inform us in the latter case so that we can make an individual check.
- Simultaneous funding from multiple Erasmus+ programmes (e.g. through a foreign university) is also excluded.
- The simultaneous receipt of an Erasmus Internship Scholarship and another DAAD scholarship (e.g. the Bachelor Plus Scholarship, PROMOS, HAW.International, Lehramt.International etc.) is generally possible, provided that the regulations of the respective DAAD scholarship programme allow it. Please therefore clarify in advance with the relevant DAAD scholarship provider whether combining funding with Erasmus+ is permitted. If a combination is not allowed, you must choose one of the two scholarships.
- Receiving a scholarship from a private foundation or company is generally possible from an Erasmus+ perspective. However, please also clarify in advance with the respective scholarship provider whether combining it with Erasmus+ funding is permitted.
- Receiving (international) BAföG funding and Erasmus+ funding at the same time is possible. KOOR will be happy to issue a scholarship confirmation for you or complete the relevant BAföG office form on your behalf.
Partial funding
Partial funding is not possible. The traineeship period has to match the Erasmus+ funding period (regardless of whether the funding period is financially funded as a whole or also consists of zero-grant shares). In fact, the Erasmus+ funding period can be made up as follows:
- Pure financial support
- Pure zero-grant funding
- Combination of financial support and zero-grant funding
In order for your internship to be funded, you must still have sufficient funding quota for the entire internship period (i.e. Erasmus+ funding period), since both financial and zero-grant shares are counted towards the funding quota. Partial funding after the start of the internship is also not possible.
Funding of Vacation Days and Public Holidays
KOOR recognises a maximum of two personal vacation days per internship month. These days are counted as part of the internship period and therefore also as part of the Erasmus+ funding period. Any personal vacation days beyond this limit are not counted as internship time and are therefore excluded from the Erasmus+ funding period, regardless of whether the period is financially funded or designated as a zero-grant period.
An exception applies to company-wide holidays (company shutdown periods). These may exceed the limit of two days per month and are nevertheless fully recognised as part of both the internship and funding period. However, if more than two days of company-wide holiday per month are already being counted, no additional personal vacation days can be recognised.
Examples
- Example 1: Your internship lasts exactly 60 calendar days. Four of these days are personal vacation days (two days per month). The internship period remains 60 days.
- Example 2: Your internship lasts exactly 60 calendar days. Six of these days are personal vacation days. Since only four vacation days can be recognised, the eligible internship period is reduced to 58 days. As the minimum funding duration of 60 days is no longer met, the internship is not eligible for Erasmus+ funding.
- Example 3: Your internship lasts exactly 60 calendar days. Ten of these days are company-wide holiday days. Since company-wide holidays are fully recognised, the internship period remains 60 days, and the internship continues to meet the funding requirements.
Please note that all information regarding internship duration refers to calendar days, not working days or business days. Public holidays are generally counted as part of the internship and funding period, regardless of any vacation time taken.
Short-Term traineeships
The focus of Erasmus+ for international internships is on long-term mobility (60 to 360 days). These longer stays are particularly well suited to achieving the core benefits of an Erasmus+ experience: professional learning, personal development, language and intercultural skills, and meaningful immersion in the working and living environment of the host country.
Short-term mobility is therefore intended specifically to benefit students for whom a longer-term mobility period is not feasible or is difficult to realise. This is why special eligibility requirements apply to short-term internships.
Target group
- Students eligible for additional funding, e.g. students with a degree of disability (GdB) of 20 or higher, students with children, students with a chronic illness resulting in additional costs related to the stay abroad, or first-generation university students
- Doctoral candidates
- Students whose study and examination regulations (SPO) provide for a short-term internship
Appropriate proof of eligibility for the respective category must be submitted together with the application documents.
Framework Conditions
- Destination countries: Only possible in Erasmus+ Programme Countries
- Duration: Minimum 5 days and maximum 30 days of physical presence in the destination country
- Virtual component: The short-term mobility must be complemented by a mandatory virtual component lasting at least one day. Doctoral candidates are exempt from this requirement.
- Workload: At least 3 ECTS credits. Where no ECTS credits are awarded, it must be ensured that the workload corresponds to at least 3 ECTS credits.
