Studies combined with Traineeship
Studying abroad can include an internship period, provided the internship takes place under the supervision of the host university. A combined stay can be organised in different ways depending on the context, i.e. the activities can take place consecutively or simultaneously. Internships lasting less than 60 days are possible under the following conditions:
- submission of a “Studies combined with Traineeship” application (Learning Agreement for Studies)
- internship must be listed as a course with ECTS in the Learning Agreement for Studies.
- no salary limit
- internship is not required to be “full-time”
Internships lasting 60 days or more require a separate Erasmus+ internship application, even if they are supervised by the host university. Please note the funding criteria for the Erasmus+ traineeships.
It is not possible to receive an Erasmus internship grant and Erasmus study grant at the same time.
Until when do I have to apply for an Erasmus+ grant?
You can apply continuously, however, you must submit your application documents one week before the beginning of the study exchange at the latest.
Please allow several weeks to obtain all signatures from the guest and home institutions.
Repeated funding / double funding
Repeated funding is possible if this does not exceed a duration of 12 months (including Erasmus internship) per study phase (Bachelor/Master/PhD). For single-cycle programs (Diplom/Magister/State Exam), the limit is 24 months. The months already funded in the Lifelong Learning Program are counted towards the quota in this case.
There must be no double funding by the EU, i.e. you may not simultaneously claim another EU scholarship in addition to the Erasmus scholarship. The DAAD does not permit to receive the Erasmus scholarship at the same time as any another DAAD scholarship (e.g. the Bachelor Plus scholarship). Should you receive a DAAD scholarship, please consult with the respective contact person.
