In April 2025, the Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Production Systems (IRP) was founded at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences. The aim of the institution is to secure and expand the long-term competitiveness of production sites in high-wage countries through basic and application-oriented research.
Production technology is regarded as one of the primary drivers of the German economy. In high-wage countries in particular, technological market leadership is of crucial importance. Intelligent automation and robotics offer the potential to effectively address current challenges such as the shortage of skilled workers, sustainability goals and the need to conserve resources.
With its vision of consistently promoting the "securing and strengthening the competitiveness of production sites in high-wage countries through the use of intelligent production technologies", the IRP is positioning itself as a key player in a forward-looking field of research.
IRP research concentrates on artificial intelligence processes, modern control and regulation algorithms and the design of mechatronic systems. The focus is on the development of technologies that extend the autonomy and flexibility of today's robotic systems and production equipment.
An interdisciplinary team of computer scientists, electrical engineers and mechanical engineers work closely together - both in basic projects and in cooperation with partners from industry. This close integration with industrial practice not only ensures effective technology transfer, but also provides valuable impetus for the further development of scientific principles.
The IRP creates an innovative research environment at Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences that actively contributes to shaping the production of tomorrow.
